Greetings From Napa!

Greetings From Napa!

View of downtown from our house Well, we have been here for about a month and a half and we are loving it! Napa is still a ‘small’ town but the downtown has gone through a transformation in the last few years with new shops and upscale restaurants. Its been fun trying new restaurants and bars in our little town and what fun talking to people visiting from all over the world! Our plan is to eat and drink our…

Work in Progress – Vogue 1285

Work in Progress – Vogue 1285

We are literally living out of garbage bags at the moment, but I STILL have my sewing area set up. That will be the last thing to be dismantled hehe. So in between packing and the remodel on our new home in Napa I managed to squeeze in some time to sew. I cut out this pattern about a month ago. This is a Tracy Reese pattern. I wasn’t initially attracted to the pictures, probably because they used a stick…

The Vogue 1280 Pattern Mystery – Solved

The Vogue 1280 Pattern Mystery – Solved

Vogue had one of their online sales recently and I picked up some new spring Vogues including this Donna Karan Vogue 1280:Beats me as to why she has her leg crossed in that odd position but if you look at the line drawing, you can see that it has some pretty interesting details. Or a lot of pattern pieces 🙂 I learned quite some time ago (and from making a lot of Burda patterns) to read over the instructions fully…

The Waiting…

The Waiting…

To move, that is. My blog absence has been due to the original mini reno, which morphed into a major reno on our Napa home, which I have been documenting on my other blog, Napa Project. Things have been going great, but it’s been a lot of work, and time. I can’t believe almost 4 months has gone by since we started renovating! We are hoping to move by the end of March, barring any unforeseen circumstances. This is the…

What Am I Working On….

What Am I Working On….

I seem to suffer from chronic sewaphrenia. I start one project, then am completely dazzled by something else then take a break and work on another hobby. I wish I could organize myself better. I still have a ton of fabric purchases left over for the Summer 2011 wardrobe. Oh well, I will have to find room in the closet for the now Summer 2012 fabric. Thank goodness I don’t buy too much trendy fabric!Below is a list of projects I’m…

Sweet Satisfaction!

Sweet Satisfaction!

Five years after I ventured into designing a competition ballroom gown  I finally got to see it in action. Palm Desert Dancesport Championships July 2011 Watching the video made me remember the long hours spent researching, designing prototypes, the frustrating failures before I finally created a competition worthy dress. It was all worth it to achieve that goal, creating something I never thought I could. I hope this is a lesson to all sewers out there who think they cannot sew…

The Ubuntu Top – New Look 6149 And MY new look

The Ubuntu Top – New Look 6149 And MY new look

I just finished redesigning my blog and moving it back over to Blogger. Yep, I designed it all myself!! I had to change the cartoon of me a little because 2 weeks ago I got my hair completely chopped and she originally had long flowing hair! Do you always have the urge to wear something new everytime you go out? I certainly do, and of course most of the time, I will end up making it. Sometimes I give myself…

The Gary Danko Dress – Vogue 1233

The Gary Danko Dress – Vogue 1233

The Pamella Roland dress is finally completed. I am calling it the Gary Danko  dress because that is where I wore it for the first time out as we were entertaining a business associate from Sweden. Although I love the dress, it did not pass the dinner test very well as you will read below. Pattern Description: Close-fitting, lined dress has front darts, princess seams, patch pockets with flaps, cap sleeves, large turned back collar with extensions, partially concealed button closure…

New Project – Vogue 1233 Pamella Roland Dress

New Project – Vogue 1233 Pamella Roland Dress

I am currently sewing together this dress: To be honest, I did not think of sewing this dress until I had found the perfect fabric – and I did. If you belong to Fabric Marts swatch service, there was a silk with metallic threads linen type fabric that came in last months samples. Perfect for this dress. A little off grain, though – so it was a challenge to cut. Details to come….

Burda Magazine 01-2008-119

Burda Magazine 01-2008-119

Moving to wine country means – a new wine county wardrobe, of course! I’ve started off with this fairly simple top from Burda Magazine. I had made the top a couple of years ago, but I never liked the all around elastic that went right under the bust. It felt uncomfortable and looked…sausage-y. With this second attempt, I added 2 inches to the upper front and back pieces so the elastic casing is lower. I think it looks much better,…
